Asphalt
Asphalt release agents are chemical products developed and manufactured as an alternative to diesel fuel and solvents, typically used to clean equipment associated with hot mix asphalt (HMAC) production and placement in government and private facilities. The US Oil Pollution Act of 1980 was used as the basis for establishing the current program. The purpose of bitumen release agents is to eliminate harmful stripping products that come into contact with the bituminous product and strip the bitumen (binder) from the aggregate, causing potholes, looseness and other detrimental pavement failures.
Concrete
In the concrete construction industry, release agents prevent freshly poured concrete from adhering to forming surfaces, usually plywood, laminated plywood, steel or aluminum. In this application, two types of release agents are available: blocking agents and reactive agents.
Barrier release agents prevent adhesion by forming a physical film or barrier between the molding surface and the concrete.
Reactive release agents are chemically active and work through a chemical reaction process between the release agent and free lime in fresh concrete. Forms a soapy film that prevents sticking. Because it is a chemically reactive process, there is usually little residue or unreacted product on the molding surface or concrete, which provides a cleaner process.
Food processing

Plastic
A release agent is applied to some plastic films to prevent the adhesive from sticking to the plastic surface. The application of semi-permanent release agents varies from per cycle to once per day application, depending on the compound being molded and the design and quality of the mold.
